The Alfalfa Club was founded in 1913 in Washington, D.C., by a group of government and private sector officials with a strong sense of patriotism and a stronger sense of humor.

In its 100-plus year history, Presidents, the Cabinet, and more than 800 leaders of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, the military, and the country’s corporate and nonprofit institutions have gathered in Washington to enjoy good humor and celebrate the Founding Fathers’ efforts at building a better America.

Alfalfa is a non-profit social organization. The Club hosts a formal dinner on the last Saturday in January. The Marine Band plays, humorous talks are given, new members are introduced, a representative of the Administration often makes remarks, and finally, a candidate for President of the United States on the Alfalfa Party ticket outlines his or her election platform.

As was written many years ago by Alfalfa’s founders, “The purpose of the Club is merely to make life brighter and more comfortable for its members and their friends.”
